L.E.A.F.Y Award Nominations Begin AGAIN!
By: Cori Petersen
This will
mark the third season of a grassroots movement to recognize Cannabis
advocates across Canada. L.E.A.F.Y stands for Legalization Education
Advocate Favoured by You, which says it all. Ross Middleton began
awarding standout individuals in the community, however his health
prevented him from continuing and he asked for help with the facebook
group calling for anyone who wanted it to continue.
Cori
Petersen answered that call and curated the awards for the second
time via Facebook. Now it is time for someone else to take the reins
for the 2016 season. One main administrator and several moderators
are needed to count the nominations and answer questions throughout
the process. If someone is nominated they cannot be a moderator or
admin. www.facebook.com/groups/LEAFYawards/
The
nomination period for this season will be December 17th through
midnight (PST) of January 14th with the voting period being between
January 15th and February 15th midnight (PST).
Winners will be announced no later than February 20th. Votes are
counted on the Facebook group only, in the form of comments and likes
on the official nomination posts. Nominations however, are counted by
facebook users’ posts and likes/comments on those posts.
There are
eight categories currently and the next curator is welcome to add a
category if they see a need for one. Also an optional “Honourable
Mention” award can be given out at the administrator's discretion.
As long as
a charitable individual steps up, then this wonderful way to
acknowledge worthy people and organizations which have been a force
for positive change of Cannabis laws, access, education, or
perception, will continue. Please consider helping out if you have
the time, it is a great opportunity to give back to those in the
Cannabis community.
